UPRVUNL to set up 2 x 500 MW coal based extension unit at Obra

U.P. Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd to set up 2 x 660 MW coal based extension unit at Obra stage ‘C’ in Sonebhadra district of Uttar Pradesh. The proposed units will be located adjacent to the existing power plant. The land is already available with the company. Water will be obtained from Obra dam on Rihand river. Coal will be obtained from nearby mines. The land requirement is 500 acres for the power plant and no land would be acquired for ash pond. The bottom ash to be disposed in existing ash pond.

Land, Water, Coal and Cabinet approval are available. The project is waiting for environmental clearance.
The bids for EPC package are likely to be invited in January 2014.

In September 2014, the company has invited bids for appointing consultant for tender preparation for awarding EPC for the project.

In September 2015, the company invited bids for design, engineering, manufacture, assembly, testing at works, supply, civil, structural and architectural works erection, testing & commissioning of main plant & balance of plant (BOP)

In October 2016, the company has awarded the BTG contract to Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Company Indian Arm – Doosan Power Systems India (DPSI).

In July 2018, Doosan Heavy Industries has awarded the material handling equipment contract including structural and electrical works to Thyssenkrupp India which is worth of USD 115 million.
