Uttar Pradesh government is planning to set up a metro network in the city of Gorakhpur. After Lucknow, Kanpur, Noida, Agra and Ghaziabad, Gorakhpur will be 6th city to have a metro network. The public investment board (PIB) of central government has approved the investment and is likely to be completed by 2024.
The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet had approved the DPR of Light Rail Transit (LRT) project in Gorakhpur in 2021 to streamline the traffic of the city and strengthen the public transport system. The Gorakpur Metro in Phase-I will have 15.41 km track will have 14 stations.
