Tehri Hydro Development Corp is planning to set up a 1320 MW (2 x 660 MW) coal based power project in Khurja in Bulandsahar district of Uttar Pradesh. The company has signed an MoU with the state government in 2011. It is preparing DPR for the project and asked for possession of 1200 acres from the state government. It may be noted, UPSIDC has in possession of 1200 acres which were acquired for industrial use.
The project is awaiting Ministry of Power approval. In December 2013, the state government has transferred the 1200 acres of land to THDC.
As of August 2016, the project has been awarded Amelia coal mines.
As of February 2018, the project is still in planning stage and is yet to get statutory clearances.
